ARRI & Friends Open House

On 2nd & 3rd November, CODEX were invited by ARRI to their Open House event, showcasing their incredible mixed-reality ‘Orbiter’ lighting rig.

There were two sessions each day – morning and afternoon, with around 100 industry professionals attending each session. While it’s great to see the industry opening up post-pandemic, safety was still paramount, with Covid Passports being presented at the door, face masks mandatory and sanitiser always within easy reach. A marquee had been set up in the car park where 3rd party vendors (CODEX, Motion Impossible, Ronford Baker, Brownian Motion, Traktion, DLP Films) could display cutting edge solutions for ARRI cameras without having to get too close!

CODEX were excited to be demonstrating the new Transfer Drive Dock and Drive, along with the shared storage solution, CODEX MediaVault. With dual TB3 connectivity the Transfer Drive offers unparalleled read & write speeds and coupled with the MediaVault you are able to process big camera RAW shoots, with a relatively small footprint of kit.

This summer has already seen the Transfer Drive earn its stripes, having enjoyed intense battle testing in the field with the production of dark comedy, Tuesday (currently in post). Seven different locations over the space of a month resulted in some radical changes to a conventional on-set data management set-up and the Transfer Drive became the perfect mobile cloning station. This workflow gave the crew complete freedom to react in challenging and often quickly changing environments, with fast and reliable offloading.

Visiting rental houses and DIT’s in particular were very interested in the Transfer Drive – speed is always key when processing original camera data but the fact that the hardware is proprietary to CODEX, there is the reassurance of added security.
